A NOTE TO ARTISTS
As you know all too well, venues and artists continue to struggle to fill seats with live music lovers.
While we had a successful Spring 2023 season, our audience numbers still aren't bouncing back to pre-Covid levels; we simply cannot support artists as we have in the past. While we have over 1800 followers on our Facebook page and a mailing list with 350 addresses, the majority of our music family members are over 55 and live in the New York/Philadelphia area. Many of our "core" gourmet audience members who attended shows regularly have moved out of the area, are enjoying grandchildren, are dealing with health challenges, or simply found other ways to spend their time. People seem to want the familiar, i.e., they'd rather see a tribute band than discover a new-to-them artist.
That being said, we're presenting six new-to-Cozy Cabin artists this fall, a 180 from the spring. House concerts traditionally are about music discovery, finding the next big thing. It's ironic that house concerts were created for up and coming/emerging artists, but with traditional venues closing, more established musicians are turning to house concerts for their livelihood. I met two of our artists at NERFA (the New England Regional Folk Alliance), discovered another when they opened for an established artist, and three got the gig because they reached out through our website with pitches from the heart--their passion for just wanting to play was loud and clear, and they were VERY persuasive.
2024 plans are to be determined. There will be even fewer shows than 2023, so the competition for a slot will be a challenge. But show us what you've got, what makes you stand apart from the rest. Let us know which radio stations are giving your songs air play, have an informative website/EPK, and let's see what might happen.
